(PRWEB UK) 22 July 2013 -- According to the Saffron Walden Reporter on July 19 in the article ‘Water Boss: Shortages On The Way’, the water company Affinity Water has announced that there is a danger of water shortages in the future.
The water company, who made the announcement in their report covering 2015 to 2040, have stated that the central region of their supply area could see demand become greater than supply. Believing that potential water shortages are due to population growth, climate change and rainfall changes, in order to rectify the potential water shortages, the firm propose that approximately £166 million should be spent between 2015 and 2020 to provide sufficient water.
The water company has begun consulting with customers on the proposed plans, asking their customers if they are satisfied with £11.3 million being spent on minimising water leaks. Proposed measures also include spending over £15 million to reduce water restrictions during droughts. Their suggested measures could increase customers' bills by up to £18.
Well-known for their Walthamstow plumbers, the experts at We Fix Now keep up to date with news in the industry and were keen to share their thoughts on the matter:
“While it is important to save water for the immediate future, it is also important to look at measures to help save water in the long term so the chance of water shortages in the future is reduced. It is welcome news that water companies are proposing steps to help, but customers can play a large role in helping to reduce water. This not only helps to reduce water wastage but saves them money on their water bills. It is thought that nearly 30,000 gallons of water can be saved by customers checking for leaking taps and pipes and contacting a plumber to fix the problem. Using water butts to collect rainfall to water your plants, instead of using a hosepipe, is another measure that helps save water.”
