Webinar Discusses Aquatics for Athletes to Foster Safe Speed and Endurance Improvement
Middletown, PA (PRWEB) December 14, 2015 -- There’s one type of exercise that athletes from all sports backgrounds regularly engage in to build their abilities, and that’s sprinting. When done properly, a sprint produces an anaerobic challenge to the body, and has been proven to increase performance and lean muscle mass, while shattering fat stores. Aquatic training in an advanced therapy pool equipped with an underwater treadmill has become a viable modality for athletes who are looking to improve their speed mechanics and athletic performance.
When done precisely, sprint training on an underwater treadmill has all the benefits and none of the gravity-causing stressors on the muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. Additionally, the compression and resistance of the water serve dual purposes; the former helps reduce swelling and promotes speedier recoveries, and the latter forces the athlete to work harder to achieve a proper sprinting gait, or sprint signature.
To help athletes, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches and performance professionals understand the advantages of providing sprint training in an aquatic environment, HydroWorx is offering a free webinar on December 16, 2015, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. E.S.T. The one-hour event, “The Advantages of Teaching the Spring Movement Pattern in an Aquatic Environment” will be presented live by two Michael Johnson Performance team members, Bryan McCall, RSSCC*D, Director of Performance, and Brian Abadie, CSCS, High Performance Coordinator.
McCall and Abadie will share their secrets with attendees, focusing on the ways they help athletes in their care obtain peak performance through underwater sprinting. Using theories from some of the world’s experts on speed and performance, the presenters will reveal how the unique combination of water and specific drill protocols can enable individuals to run faster, smarter and longer on land.
During “The Advantages of Teaching the Sprint Movement Pattern in an Aquatic Environment”, several themes will be discussed. The first is a deeper understanding of the “sprint signature”, as well as how it is used successfully at Michael Johnson Performance. The next is a thorough explanation of why training in an aquatic environment such as a HydroWorx underwater treadmill therapy pool is advantageous. Finally, an investigation into limb velocity in water compared to the limb velocity on land will be integrated into the discussion to show added benefits for athletes who have the opportunity to sprint in water.
Anyone who is interested in this informational topic can attend “The Advantages of Teaching the Sprint Movement Pattern in an Aquatic Environment”, although registration is required. Athletic trainers who attend the webinar in its entirety are eligible for one CEU through BOC. Other participants may wish to petition their certification agencies for CEUs for attending.
