Webinar Tackles Aquatic Therapy Treatment Options for Patients Suffering from Neurological Conditions
Middletown, PA (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- Spinal cord injuries. Brain injuries. Stroke. These neurological conditions annually affect nearly two million persons across North America, according to sources including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After this type of event occurs, the individual is often faced with a long path back to psychological and physical wellness and, if at all possible, independence bolstered by mobility. Physical therapy professionals who focus on treating those who have suffered from neurological impairment, disease and injury have discovered that aquatic therapy can be an exceptional resource for helping patients re-train their bodies and minds.
The exciting ways progressive physical therapy clinics are using advanced therapy pools retrofitted with underwater treadmill floors is the subject of the upcoming webinar on January 27, 2015, from 1-2 p.m. E.S.T. “The Use of Aquatic Therapy for Neurological Rehabilitation” will be presented by Jan Black, MS, PT, who is the clinic director and co-founder of Neuroworx, a Utah-based non-profit, state-of-the-art outpatient physical therapy clinic that specializes in patient neuro-rehabilitation specifically for spinal cord injured persons.
During the webinar, Ms. Black will explain the many methods she and her team use to facilitate rehabilitation in the clients they serve. Some of the topics addressed during “The Use of Aquatic Therapy for Neurological Rehabilitation” include:
- How to apply accepted neurological rehabilitation principles in an aquatic environment.
- Why the properties of water are beneficial for those who have undergone neurological issues.
- How aquatic therapy can be combined with interventions such as locomotor training to accelerate patient progress and outcomes.
- How gait, balance, kinematics and overall functional mobility are improved in clients who systematically undergo advanced aquatic therapy regimens.
In addition, Ms. Black will discuss a patient case to illustrate each point.
“The Use of Aquatic Therapy for Neurological Rehabilitation” is free to attend, but pre-registration for the event is required. To sign up, please visit this site: http://ww2.hydroworx.com/webinar-neuro-rehab.
