Weisgerber Named LMU Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services
Harrogate, TN (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President B. James Dawson announced that Dr. James E. (Chip) Weisgerber has been appointed vice president for student and enrollment services.
“Dr. Weisgerber brings a wealth of experience to LMU and will provide the leadership needed to continue on the trajectory of growth that LMU has enjoyed over the past decade,” Dawson said.
Prior to his appointment, Weisgerber served 15 years in various student-centered roles at Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio. Weisgerber started at Urbana as director of residence life and student activities and moved up to associate dean for student life. He was promoted again to dean of students and then dean of students and executive director of administration in 2006. His title changed again in 2008 to dean of students and executive director of enrollment. His service to the 1,500-student liberal arts institution culminated as vice president for student and enrollment services and dean of students, a position he has held since 2011. Prior to Urbana, Weisgerber served as coordinator of international student services and director of volunteer and community services at his alma mater, Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. He also worked as director of residential life at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., and was a graduate assistant at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.
Weisgerber will draw on his over 20 years of experience in higher education in his new position at LMU. He will be a member of Dawson’s President’s Cabinet and will oversee the Student and Enrollment Services division which includes undergraduate admissions, student services, financial aid and student support services.

From fall 2009 to fall 2012, Urbana University’s total traditional student full-time enrollment increased by eight percent under Weisgerber’s leadership. He also played an integral role in Urbana University’s development of fully online undergraduate degree programs as well as hybrid/blended undergraduate adult degree programs and hybrid and fully online graduate degree programs – all areas LMU is looking to develop in the coming years.
In addition to his administrative roles in student and enrollment services, Weisgerber assisted in donor cultivation and represented Urbana in negotiations with a variety of external constituencies. He teamed with local clergy and university personnel to develop and implement a campus interfaith chaplaincy program to nurture the spiritual, moral and ethical lives of students, faculty and staff. Upon his promotion to vice president at Urbana, he was given additional duties of assisting the president in developing and managing external partnerships to support growth and financial stability at the institution.
Weisgerber earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. He also holds a master of arts in student affairs in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor of arts in chemistry from Muskingum College. Weisgerber and his wife, Tara, are parents to two children – Andy and David. The Weisgerbers have been active in their communities with special interest in working with youth and music in church.
