Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group Employees Walks to Raise Awareness for Alzheimer’s
Norwell MA (PRWEB) September 29, 2015 -- Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group employees were out in force on Saturday, September 19 to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The South Shore Walk was held at Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Plymouth. Over 1,200 people participated in the Walk, including eight teams comprised of staff from multiple Welch Group senior living communities, assisted living memory care neighborhoods and nursing centers. This year the Welch Group or Massachusetts has to date raised $13,700. Massachusetts Congressman Bill Keating (D-9th District) served as one of the keynote speakers at the opening ceremony.
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and more than 5 million Americans are living with the disease. And that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. The disease has a significant impact on family members, with nearly 15 million people providing care to a loved one, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The Welch Group’s top team fundraisers were from Village at Proprietors Green in Marshfield, raising $5,167. Retta Dwyer, resident services at Village at Proprietors Green was awarded a Grand Champion Medal for personally raising $1,970. Dwyer has had many loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s disease and was determined to “no longer by on the sidelines anymore.” Additionally, Welch Healthcare and Retirement once again served as a $2,500 Promise Garden Sponsor. For the past 12 years the Welch Group has helped raise over $100,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
