Welcome Spectators to the U.S. Open Championships in Pinehurst
Southern Pines, NC (PRWEB) June 16, 2014 -- Raleigh-Durham airport (RDU) has rolled out the welcome mat in a big way – digitally and with manned information desks for the spectators heading to the U.S. Open Championships in Pinehurst. With 400,000 estimated visitors arriving for the two-week festivities, tens of thousands arriving via the airport have many questions from where to get rental cars to where to eat on the way to Pinehurst. The CVB, in partnership with Sandhills Community College, conducted specialized training for airport and local volunteers on specifics of the championships as well as training on customer service. In all, and along with maps, handbooks, and mobile apps, the volunteers are ready for just about any question spectators will ask.
Information desks are located in the baggage claim area of both terminals to help visitors get their bearings as they begin their trip to this historic golf event – the first time the U.S. Open and Women’s Open championships will be played back-to-back on the same course. That course being the famed Pinehurst No. 2.
Signage, thanks to the NCDOT, will help spectators get to the venue and also directs them to the satellite parking lot that will run continuous complimentary shuttles to the main gate at Pinehurst No. 2.
And, once you enter the U.S. Open main gate, the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has an information tent just to the left to answer questions and provide visitor guides. Cristy Hunt, manager of volunteer services for the CVB, reflected, “I am very proud to work with an outstanding group of volunteers. They have gone above and beyond the hours it takes to service so many visitors. I've witnessed teamwork among the volunteers working to provide answers to all questions. They've remained enthusiastic and are very thankful to be a part of this special opportunity.”
Throughout the village of Pinehurst, ambassadors will provide information and help visitors find shops, food, and free evening activities designed to enhance their experience. Neighboring Southern Pines also has a line-up of free music concerts during the two weeks of championship play with a variety of dining options and unique shops.
So, whether you’re coming for the day or staying for several days, the Sandhills has its welcome mat rolled out for everyone to enjoy the relaxed southern hospitality it’s been known for since the early 1900’s.
