Wenzhou-Kean University Recognized as Most Influential Sino-foreign Cooperative University
Union, New Jersey (PRWEB) January 07, 2016 -- Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), Kean University’s English-speaking campus in China, was recognized as the Most Influential Sino-foreign Cooperative University at the Xinhua Education Forum-Voice of Education conference in Beijing on Dec. 4, 2015. The award was based on the results of a month-long online poll. The annual Xinhua Voice of Education forum garners widespread media coverage and wields considerable influence on Chinese education policy.
A partnership between Kean University in New Jersey and Wenzhou University in Zhejiang Province, China, WKU opened in 2012 and has since grown to more than 1500 undergraduate students. WKU will confer diplomas on its first graduating class of more than 400 students at a commencement ceremony in May 2016.
“Kean is the only public university in the U.S. with a degree granting campus in China. This honor further validates the success of WKU, as we strive to offer truly global educational opportunities for both Kean USA and Wenzhou Kean students,” said Phillip Connelly, Kean University Executive Vice President for Operations. “Each and everyone of our students at WKU is pioneer.”
WKU has recently hosted several major educational events, including the 2014 China-U.S. Forum on Higher Education and Economic Growth and the 6th Annual Conference on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in 2015.
This September, China’s President Xi Jinping discussed Wenzhou-Kean University at the China-U.S. Governors forum in Seattle, chronicling his own direct involvement in the historic endeavor and describing the University as “making good progress.” In 2006, while serving as Governor of Zhejiang, Jinping visited Kean University’s main campus in Union and attended a signing ceremony for the joint initiative between Wenzhou University and Kean University. Jinping extolled the value of cultural and educational exchange between China and the U.S before the group of U.S. governors, citing Wenzhou-Kean University as an example of a successful approach to cooperative education.
