West African Stowaway, is a Short Film Coming to Independent Film Market Festivals This Fall Season
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 28, 2013 -- WEST AFRICAN STOWAWAY
A film about family, fatherhood and West African music.
About the Film
West African Stowaway is the latest short film project from Director/Writer/Musician Chad Blevins. The dark yet comic tale centers around 15 yr. old Milo Ellis' attempts to bridge the ruptures (fissures?) that have arisen between he and his (often) neglectful father Frank following the death of his mother when he still a young child. Ever since, Frank has sought refuge from his grief by burying himself in his work as an Ethno-musicologist. In the film, Milo delves in to the world of musical anthropology as a way to connect to his mother, and ultimately his father.
Will Oldham plays Frank Ellis, Milo’s father. Oldham brings to bare his sizable experience as a renowned folk musician and actor to the role. His film career stretches back to its auspicious beginning in John Sayles' 1987 feature Matewan, holding his own alongside the great James Earl Jones at the tender age of 17. He has since played several roles in prominent independent films, such as 2005's Junebug which helped introduce the acting talents of Amy Adams to the world at large in her first Oscar-nominated performance. Other highlight include The Guatemalan Handshake & Kelly Reichert’s Old Joy both in 2006 and Rick Alverson’s New Jerusalem in 2011.
About thr Director
A few years ago, Chad Blevins (writer/director) left Louisville, Ky to pursue an MFA in Film from Temple University in Philadelphia. This film is the culmination of his graduate work at Temple. He has recently moved back to Louisville, to make his first Kentucky-based short film.
We are very excited to be shooting here. Louisville offers a lot of talent and creative resources that we hope to fully utilize while making this project.
THE BUDGET
The budget for the film is around $14,000. The project has received two grants from Temple University that cover a large portion of the budget. So, we are asking for your help with the final $2,500. Any amount helps.
