Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) May 31, 2017 -- Rockford High School Marching Band located in Rockford, Mich. has been chosen as one of 10 music programs to perform at the nationally televised 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday, Nov. 23. The 350-member music program, under the direction of Brian Phillips, is teaming with the largest scrip fundraising program, ShopWithScrip, to aid their March to Macy’s. Rockford Bands has 70 to 100 families participating in ShopWithScrip on a monthly basis. ShopWithScrip participants purchase gift cards from major retailers that can be used on their everyday shopping. A percentage of purchases made with the giftcards go towards Rockford Bands’ March to Macy’s. ShopWithScrip is a fundraising program offered by Great Lakes Scrip Center.
“We are anticipating to raise over $30,000 during the 2016-2017 school year,” said Rockford High School Marching Band ShopWithScrip coordinator, Tasha Burns. “Last year we raised $14,000, so we have more than doubled our fundraising totals.”
Rockford High School Marching Band completed a rigorous two-year application process in order to perform at the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The application process included extensive screenings and review of letter of recommendations, resumes, and video footage.
“Our ShopWithScrip fundraising program is a perfect long-term fundraising option for music groups and bands to raise money on the purchases they’re already making,” Mike Simon, Director of Marketing at Great Lakes Scrip Center, said. “Great Lakes Scrip Center has helped thousands for organizations meet their fundraising needs throughout the years, but knowing we’re helping an organization in our local community attend one of the most popular holiday events makes it extra special and we’re happy to be a part of this process.”
ShopWithScrip is the largest gift card fundraising program in the country. Scrip is fundraising while you shop®. Unlike other fundraisers where you have to devote time to selling products or asking for donations, with scrip, you raise money by purchasing gift cards on ShopWithScrip.com. These gift cards all have a rebate percentage on them, normally between 2 percent and 16 percent, which is the amount that will go directly to your organization when the card is purchased at face value. Every program has a coordinator who places organization orders and promotes the program to new families. Rockford Band’s scrip coordinator, Tasha Burns, is increasing involvement by setting up a scrip table every week where families can purchase gift cards or pick up their orders.
Over the past two decades, ShopWithScrip has contributed to fundraising initiatives for over 30,000 organizations, raising over $570 million. The ShopWithScrip process is simplified below:
- Organizations sign up to become a ShopWithScrip customer.
- Organizations earn money on the gift card purchases. This money goes towards organization’s fundraising initiatives.
- ShopWithScrip delivers the organization’s purchased gift cards.
The 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade averaged 24.6 million television viewers and an estimated 3.5 million parade spectators. This number is looking to grow exponentially for the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
