West Ohio Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church Meets Imagine No Malaria Goal
Lakeside Chautauqua, Ohio (PRWEB) June 12, 2015 -- The West Ohio Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church has reached – and likely surpassed -- its Imagine No Malaria goal of $3.5 million following the offering taken during the Global Praise and Worship Service on June 9. The special offering raised $403,735 from the approximately 2,000 members attending the yearly gathering of pastors, leaders and laity in Lakeside Chautauqua. When a final accounting of the commitments and offering is recorded, leaders are expecting that the West Ohio Annual Conference will have exceeded its conference goal for the battle against malaria.
“We are no strangers here in West Ohio to miraculous, mission-focused giving. Across all generations, the people in our West Ohio congregations have put their creative and collective noses to the grindstone this past year and said a resounding ‘Yes!’ to saving 350,000 lives in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Bishop Gregory V. Palmer. “I celebrate the people and churches of the West Ohio Conference as together we’ve reached this giving milestone that will allow vital malaria-fighting resources to reach those most in need.
Prior to the kickoff on June 7 of the yearly conference, the West Ohio group had raised $3.28 million toward its goal. In addition to the offering, the conference held a 5K run, silent auction and other events to benefit Imagine No Malaria throughout the four-day event.
Imagine No Malaria, an initiative of people of The United Methodist Church, is near its goal of raising $75 million to prevent malaria deaths.
The West Ohio Annual Conference was held June 7-10 at the historic Lake Erie community.
