West Palm Beach Personal Injury Lawyer David J. Glatthorn Comments on Report Stating Florida Is Worst State to Get in a Car Wreck
West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 14, 2015 -- West Palm Beach car accident attorney David J. Glatthorn of David Glatthorn Law today said a study revealing Florida to be the worst state to get into a car accident does not come as a surprise because he has handled many complicated injury and wrongful death claims.
Glatthorn commented on a report in the South Florida Business Journal (“Florida is the worst state to get into a car crash,” Jan. 15, 2015). The ranking is based on available car liability insurance and other forms of required insurance to protect others as well as the percentage of uninsured drivers in the state.
“As a personal injury attorney, I’ve handled many complex cases involving drivers who were uninsured or underinsured,” Glatthorn said. “Car accidents certainly can be frustrating in Florida, which is why it’s so important to talk to an attorney if you’ve been injured or if you’ve lost a loved one. This is especially critical if the insurance company is giving you the run-around. You may feel devastated after a car wreck, but I tell people who call me that there are always options. And I have the case results to back up what I say.”
According to the Business Journal, WalletHub released a study that found the Sunshine State to be the riskiest in terms of a financial impact on someone in an accident. That’s because Florida has some of the lowest insurance requirements in the nation, the report states. The study also finds nearly 24 percent of drivers in Florida have no insurance or ignore the law.
Personal injury protection (PIP), which is required coverage in Florida, pays for injuries to the driver and passenger. Because the minimum liability coverage is low compared to other states, victims in serious accidents may not get full compensation if the at-fault driver has only minimum coverage, according to the Business Journal.
Attorney Glatthorn, who has practiced law in Florida for 35 years, said Floridians should consider purchasing uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.
“The best way to protect yourself is to make sure you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage as part of your auto insurance policy. With uninsured or underinsured coverage, you can make a claim against your own insurance company if you are in an accident with someone who either has no insurance or does not have enough coverage,” Glatthorn said. “Your uninsured motorist coverage also will cover you if you are a victim of a hit and run accident. These claims, however, can become complicated. Your own insurance carrier may become adversarial and try to keep payments to a minimum or deny your uninsured or underinsured motorist claim.”
Glatthorn added that experienced attorneys can help accident victims with claims involving uninsured or underinsured drivers.
“Experienced attorneys are well aware of the tactics insurance companies use against accident victims,” Glatthorn said. “Before I started representing the injured, I was a defense attorney for insurance companies. Over the years, my knowledge about how the other side operates has helped me maximize awards for my clients.”
