Westat Awarded the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) February 01, 2016 -- The National Institutes of Health(NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have chosen Westat to continue conducting the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study, led by scientists at NIH and FDA. Westat has been conducting the PATH Study since its inception in 2011. The PATH Study is the largest national longitudinal study of tobacco use and its effects on the health of Americans. Westat leads a team of partner organizations whose researchers are preeminent in the field of tobacco research, including tobacco use behaviors and related health conditions.
Information from the PATH Study is helping NIH and FDA to understand tobacco use behaviors and how use affects health over time. Findings from the study will inform FDA’s regulatory decisions and actions under the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. About 46,000 people ages 12 years and older are participating in the PATH Study.
“Westat is honored to have been selected to be a part of this important study and the public health policies it will inform now and in the future,” said David Maklan, Ph.D., PATH Study Co-Principal Investigator and Westat Senior Vice President.
