Westland Mayor Wild Provides Warm Welcome to Special Needs Group at Annual Hockey Game
Westland, Michigan (PRWEB) March 28, 2015 -- As the players took the ice, DUO members cheered and waived their festive red, blue, and white pom poms - excited to be a part of the night’s action.
“We are very grateful to Mayor Wild for the wonderful welcome we received and the opportunity to bring many of our members to such a fun and exciting local event,” says Stacy Kessel, Wayne-Westland DUO President and Co-Founder. “When the game announcer mentioned our group in his welcoming speech, it was hard to hear anything but the ecstatic cheers coming from our members.”
This outing is one of many that the new non-profit plans to take its members on throughout the rest of the year. Enjoying generous opportunities like those provided by the Mayors office, DUO can provide great experiences for its members and the community at large.
“We started DUO to not only support our special needs community, but to also spread the excitement and joy that the group provides to the rest of the Wayne-Westland community. If you spend time with our members, even if only for a minute or two, I guarantee you’ll walk away with a smile on your face, and your heart warmed,” says Stacy.
The non-profit is currently working on several initiatives for the spring and summer, including an informational session for friends and family members of those with intellectual disabilities, a group volunteer outing to Gleaners Community Food Bank, and several outdoor activities including the DUO 5K & Family Field Day that will take place in July at the Lower Huron Metro Park in Belleville, MI.
