Wexford Labs Products Earn the U.S. EPA's Design for the Environment Label
St. Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) November 05, 2013 -- Wexford announced today that their CleanCide® Ready to Use (RTU) Disinfectant and their Wexford Disinfectant Wipes meet the stringent criteria of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Design for the Environment program, and specifically the Design for the Environment Antimicrobial Pesticide Pilot Project - a program that works with manufacturers to develop safer chemical products that also meet high performance standards. The Design for the Environment (DfE) label allows consumers and businesses to quickly identify and choose products that perform well, are cost-effective, and are safer for the environment.
The hospital grade disinfectant products, CleanCide® RTU and Wexford Disinfectant Wipes, have been formulated with a focus on helping to protect patients, students, guests, staff, equipment, fixtures and the environment. These products are used to clean and disinfect hard, nonporous surfaces such as stainless steel, chrome, glass, plastic and vinyl in a one step process. Both products meet OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens and are tuberculocidal, bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal with a contact time of just 5 minutes. They are excellent for use in healthcare environments, education, childcare, hospitality, agriculture, and anywhere there is a concern about contagions.
CleanCide® RTU and Wexford Disinfectant Wipes use citric acid as their active ingredient in place of the standard phenol, quaternary ammonium, alcohol or bleach in the formulation. The products are not orally or dermally toxic, have no inhalant toxicity, are not primary skin irritants and have an HMIS/NFPA rating of "0". The non-corrosive formulation decreases concerns about surface degradation on equipment and fixtures. Both products are environmentally friendly and the wipe fabric is made with highly biodegradable material.
"The DfE certification is a welcome affirmation of the many years of research that went into the development of these products," said Owner and CEO Mary Anne Auer. "Wexford Labs was established 40 years ago on the premise that disinfectants could be effective with minimal impact to equipment, our environment, or to people that handle or come in contact with the products. The CleanCide® and Wexford Disinfectant Wipe lines are a physical embodiment of our company's founding principles."
When you see the DfE label on a product, it means that EPA's scientific review team has evaluated every ingredient for potential human health and environmental effects and allowed only chemicals from the safest in their class - that meet stringent EPA criteria - to be used. DfE-labeled products do not contain known chemicals of potential concern, like carcinogens, reproductive or developmental toxicants - and even minor product components, like dyes and fragrances, are screened for safety.

About Wexford Labs
Founded in 1974, Wexford Labs is dedicated to the safety and education of professionals in the cleaning industry. In 1976 Wexford Labs, Inc. developed the first totally broad-spectrum germicidal detergent, which is neither orally toxic nor dermally toxic. Since that time Wexford Labs has continued to develop and manufacture highly effective and innovative products.
About the DfE Program:
Design for the Environment (DfE) was created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to identify cleaning and other products that contain the safest possible ingredients, perform well, and are cost-effective. For more than 15 years, DfE has been evaluating products, recommending safer ingredients and recognizing innovative formulations. As of 2011, on average DfE and its partners reduce the use of approximately 700 million pounds of chemicals of concern per year. DfE's team of EPA scientists evaluates the impact of products on people and the environment and awards the DfE label to products that meet the stringent safety criteria. As of 2011, the DfE label can be found on more than 2,500 products. More information about the EPA DfE program can be found at http://www.epa.org/dfe.
