Wharton Start-Up Ryze Uses UBER to Bring Room Service to Airbnb, Boutique Hotels and Apartments in New York City
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 10, 2015 -- Start-up Ryze (http://www.tryryze.com) has created an innovative room service solution for New York City, working with UBER as its logistics platform. The opening offering will include breakfast-in-bed crafted by top private chefs, a curated selection of bath products, a full on-demand mini bar, city guides and more. The service will have a soft launch on April 16th serving downtown Manhattan. Ryze will allow customers to track orders with the same interface as the UBER application, which are estimated to take approximately 20 minutes to fulfill.
The team developed the Ryze concept having collectively traveled to 18 countries in the last year, staying in Airbnb apartments in cities ranging from New York to Paris to Florence to Beirut. “Ryze was born out of the need for a hospitality solution to problems we experienced ourselves as Airbnb guests. We often arrived to our rentals at ungodly hours, had our suitcases lost in transit, and were generally frustrated with not being able to enjoy hotel services in the intimacy of our apartments," says co-founder Morgane Le Bleis.
Ryze believes that today’s multi-billion dollar global hospitality eco-system has evolved in ways that make it ripe for disruption. Airbnb has disrupted the traditional hotel industry by offering some of the services that hotels do, but not all of them. Ryze is looking to take Airbnb all of the way by turning high-end apartments, often priced comparably to premium hotels, into exciting hotel-like experiences. The start-up estimates that the Airbnb room service market in New York City alone would generate over a $100mm in revenue annually, and it also plans to offer a range of solutions for hosts.
Second, due to the Airbnb disruption, hotels have faced increased occupancy issues and margin pressure, forcing them to increase service prices or cut services altogether. Ryze intends to step in as the turn-key solutions provider for hotels, helping them reduce costs, add customized services and improve customer experience. To this end, Ryze is also working on technology upgrades for hotels, allowing them to seamlessly integrate their service platforms with the start-up, making it easy for hotels to provide a premium guest experience.
Ryze also anticipates significant demand from New Yorkers, who want a hotel-like experience at home. The start-up plans to expand globally to the cities with the highest density of Airbnb and hotel lodgings within the coming year, including London and Paris. The team believes customers, as well as hotels and Airbnb hosts, experience very similar needs across these markets. “We have developed a comprehensive room service solution that can transform the hospitality market for both disruptors like Airbnb and incumbents like boutique hotels," said Nachiketa Rao, Co-Founder of Ryze.
Ryze is advised by a group of hospitality specialists, culinary consultants, private chefs, and faculty members from top business schools, The Wharton School and INSEAD. Co-founders, Nachiketa Rao, Morgane Le Bleis and Satyajit Rao have studied at top institutions around the world. They have most recently attended Sciences Po, Oxford, Swarthmore College, and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where Ryze won an award from the Wharton Innovation Fund.
