What Does the Future Hold for Hispanic Kids? Hispanic CREO Hosts Education Summit on the State of Education of Latinos in the United States
Lake Worth, Fla. (PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- The Hispanic Council for Reform and Educational Options (Hispanic CREO) will be hosting the school choice education summit: Educate. Empower. Achieve. at the InterContinental at Doral Miami on November 14-16, 2013.
The summit is the premier national gathering of education reformers on Hispanic education issues and school choice options. Every year the summit feature urgent discussions and topics on Hispanic children disparities within K-12 education and brings to light the power and influence of school choice - giving Hispanic students in low-performing schools an opportunity to choose a better learning environment and the chance to succeed academically.
Julio Fuentes, president and CEO of Hispanic CREO, is looking forward to welcoming attendees in Miami. "It is truly an honor to have so many school reform advocates from across the country come together with one common goal; how do we make sure all children receive a quality education?"
Hispanic CREO expects more than 200 parents, students, educators, elected officials, and business leaders to attend. The goals of the event are to:
• Raise awareness of the low academic achievement of Hispanic youth and why this is an issue of national implications with guests such as Darrel Bradford, Director of a Better Education for Kids, Cynthia Hudson, CNN en Español Senior Vice President, and Cristina Allan, CEO of AlphaStaff
• Identify how the community can find a transformational path to solutions to this crisis with guests such as Kenneth Campbell, President of the Black Alliance for Educational Options, Ron Matus from Step Up for Students and Jason Crye, Director of Hispanics for School Choice
• Discuss the needs of children today, and what the schools of the future need to look like with guests such as Gabriel Zinny, founder of KUEPA learning and Giovanni Rodriguez, Advisor to the White House on Science and Technology
• Learn about the role of grassroots in the mobilization of citizens to address education issues with Latino activist Jackie Reyes, “Dreamer” Daniel Leon and FL Director of LATISM Nastascha Otero
• Discuss the role of public officials with leaders such as N.J. Senator M. Teresa Ruiz, FL. Senator Anitere Flores, Commissioner Luz Urbaez-Weinberg, School Board Member Raquel Regalado and former DC Mayor Adrian Fenty.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion about the dire state of academic achievement of Hispanic kids in the United States and what they can do about it. Education organizations will be on-hand to distribute information to attendees, and networking receptions will be held on Thursday and Friday nights.
As Americans, we unite around the shared goal of making our children’s future bright and prosperous. The education of our youth is an American issue that impacts everyone. Graduating from high school is no longer enough. Our youth need access to schools that prepare them to compete nationally and globally. With the right preparation, our kids will join the workforce ready to innovate, create jobs and solve the nation's most important problems.
