Tampa, FL (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- Meadow Burke recently investigated published industry standards for shear values of Threaded Lift Pins with Socket when embedded in concrete, with a minimum of 3,500psi compression strength.
Mike Recker, VP of Meadow Burke Engineering, was skeptical of some of the load ratings published by various suppliers in the industry regarding the performance capabilities of threaded lifting pins with sockets. This was due to the years of experience in the lifting component market as well as the initial testing performed while the new Meadow Burke Threaded Lifting Pin with Socket product was under development. “We feel the published performance, safe working load values are based on purely testing in mechanical means, shearing the pin itself, not by the proper means of evaluating with the concrete surrounding it. Meadow Burke prefers to test lifting products within concrete to the point of failure, ideally by an independent testing lab. Casting the device in concrete is the only way to establish true safe working load performance,” states Mr. Recker.
Meadow Burke used these methods to develop its new Threaded Lift Pin with Socket product. Partnering with Applied Technical Services, Inc. (ATS) in Georgia, the product was tested in shear to the point where it bent and/or crushed the concrete, disengaging the hook from the pin, thus ultimately failing. The results established from the testing showed a lower safe working load capacity than what was previously published by the industry. The Meadow Burke Threaded Lifting Pin with Socket product performs as shown below:
Min Concrete Thickness (in) - 5
Allowable Shear Load SF 4:1(lbs.) - 2,000
Ultimate Tested load in concrete - 8,000
Ultimate Mechanical Shear Load (lbs.) - 20,000
Min Edge Distance (in) - 12
*Table is based on dead load in shear only, 150PCF and a standard concrete compressive strength of 3,500 psi for the Meadow Burke Threaded Lift Pin with Socket.
“As the industry leader and keeping with our culture of customer safety, Meadow Burke has a duty to establish a true standard of testing and bring awareness so products in the industry are clearly represented with their safe working loads in order to help customers make decisions of what a product can or cannot lift,” commented Mr. Recker
