What's New in Southwest Louisiana
LAKE CHARLES, La. (PRWEB) June 30, 2016 -- Exciting new attractions are coming to Southwest Louisiana this summer. The latest additions and developments in the area include the opening of local craft breweries, the return of summer festival season, updates to the Lake Charles historic tour app and continued casino resort expansions.
Two new local craft breweries have recently opened in Lake Charles. RikenJaks Brewing Company has made a comeback in the area after first debuting in the 1990s. It’s the newest venue in the area for drinking, eating and live music. Crying Eagle Brewing Co. has completed construction on their 15,000-square-foot facility and is offering free tours. Casino expansion is underway in Southwest Louisiana. Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel in Vinton, La. is undergoing a $45 million expansion project slated for completion in December 2016. The first phase was recently completed by opening Rosewater Grill and Tavern. Golden Nugget Lake Charles, located adjacent to L’Auberge Casino Resort, is currently adding an additional 300-room hotel tower which will be completed in the spring of 2017, bringing the resort to 1,040 rooms. L’Auberge Casino Resort recently expanded its dining options by opening Modern Pantry, a 24 hour dine in or grab-and-go restaurant offering a wide variety of options from local creole favorites like boudin and gumbo to sushi, salads, sandwiches and gelato. L'Auberge Casino Resort has also recently completed a $7 million renovation of their luxury Garden Suites. Spa du Lac is currently being renovated and will open this summer. Later this year, the resort will begin construction on a new lobby bar. Isle of Capri Casino Hotel has updated its entertainment facilities by renovating their concert venue, The Lone Wolf, complete with an action-packed live music schedule.
During the summer months, Southwest Louisiana is packed with a variety of unique celebrations the whole family can enjoy. Celebrate the food, art and music that defines Cajun country at popular festivals like the 29th Annual Cajun Music & Food Festival and Arts & Crabs Fest. Show off your patriotism and Cajun pride at events like the 2016 Stars & Stripes Celebration and Boudin Wars Competition.
The Charpentier Historic District’s self-guided, tour app highlights the rich history of the city as well as the carpenter-architects who created Lake Charles’ unique style of architecture now features an interactive photo feature and gallery. The application features 30 minute to 1 hour tours, haunted ghost tours, as well as videos, photos and social media sharing capabilities.
