What Women in Tech Really Think About Being a Woman in Tech
Vienna, VA (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- What gets discussed when women leaders from both government and industry sit down to talk candidly about gender and the federal IT space? FCW, published by 1105 Public Sector Media Group, recently hosted a roundtable discussion to find out.
FCW, which for 25 years has driven the conversations that matter in the federal IT community, brought together nine women IT leaders from the public and private sectors for a two-hour discussion in December 2014. Participants included the CIO of the Interior Department, the deputy CIO of the Homeland Security Department and the Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector at Amazon.
Topics discussed included the challenges that still face women in technology, the importance of creating better on-ramps and the lessons they wish they’d learned sooner. There was also general agreement as to why federal IT can attract top talent despite the obstacles of pay, politics and bureaucracy: it combines the intrigue of new technology with a passion for, as one participant put it, "compelling missions at scale."
“The technology space is notorious for the gender gap in its workforce,” said FCW Editor-in-Chief Troy K. Schneider. “But the numbers are only the start of the story. We wanted to learn more about the career paths and experiences of women who have lived in that world, and established themselves as IT leaders. This was a fantastic group to provide insights into the current and future landscape of the IT industry.”
Highlights of this conversation and the full list of participants can be found in the January 2015 issue of FCW: http://digital.FCW.com.
