While Promoting Star Trek Continues, Chris Doohan for first time ever, Reveals Scotty Could Have Been German on AfterBuzz TV
(PRWEB) February 16, 2015 -- Michele Specht and Chris Doohan of "Star Trek Continues” joined hosts Alana Jordan and Demetri Panos on Maria Menounos' online broadcast network, AfterBuzz TV, to announce their new episode of the series and their current “Kirkstarter" campaign.
Chris Doohan takes on the role of “Scotty,” a character made famous by his father, James Doohan. In addition to discussing the difficulties of perfecting his own Scottish accent for the role, he reveals that his father initially had to practice a variety of accents before Scotty’s nationality had been decided for the show. Doohan recalls, “I would hear him practice different dialects, and he tried many different accents for Scotty before it was the name “Scotty” obviously. I think he did a German accent. He went through the gamete.” Ultimately, production went with Scottish, not because of James Doohan's proficiency at it, but because his rationalization that since "the Scotsmen have some of the best engineers, he should be a Scot. [...] And that's how 'Scotty' came to be."
Doohan also recounts some of his interactions with JJ Abrams and Simon Pegg on the set of Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness, when he played a Transport Officer along-side Simon Pegg’s version of Scotty. He was actually offered the audition as a result of a write-in campaign to Paramount run by fans who wished for him to reprise his father’s role as Scotty, the dream Star Trek Continues is now making a reality.
Specht plays a new character to the Star Trek canon as Doctor Elise McKennah, who already has a legion of fans that have even begun cosplaying her character at conventions. She also discussed the momentous support the show has received from die-hard Trekkies and their wildly popular fund-raising campaigning cleverly nicknamed Kirkstarter.
The two also announced their latest costar for their next episode will be Colin Baker, who played the sixth incarnation of The Doctor on the BBC series.
