(Los Angeles County Superior Court, Case No. BC505377) and John Doe v. Universal Protection Services, et als. (Los Angeles County Superior Court, Case No. BC513341).
As alleged in the complaint filed on April 9, 2013, the female Plaintiff security guard worked in Santa Monica, California at the Santa Monica Media Center, where Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) maintains offices and studios. The female Plaintiff in her lawsuit alleges that she complained of sexual harassment by her supervisor of the security company and illegal drug use by UMPG guests, employees, and clients. According to court documents, the female Plaintiff complained of illegal drug use by celebrity recording artists. Court documents also allege that the female Plaintiff complained about unwanted sexual advances by her supervisor, and that once she complained, she was retaliated against, suspended, and not allowed to return to work.
The lawsuit filed by the female Plaintiff also alleges that supervisors told her not to report any of the drug activity, because the property management company, “already knows what goes down in the studios.” The lawsuit asserts that the female Plaintiff witnessed and complained about illegal activity including drug use, possession, distribution, and participation on the premises and the use of drug paraphernalia by UMPG, its visitors and clients. The female Plaintiff alleges that she was asked if she wanted a “hit” and offered drugs by certain celebrities who visited UMPG.
In a related lawsuit filed on June 26, 2013, a male Plaintiff security guard alleges that he also witnessed illegal drug use by UMPG guests, employees, and clients. The male Plaintiff alleges that he suffered retaliation for complaining about the illegal drug use in the workplace, among other things, and for supporting various complaints made by his female coworker.
Both Plaintiffs were employees of Universal Protection Services, Inc. Their complaints also allege that “daily interactions were directed, controlled and assigned by UPS, UMPG and [the realty company].
Both lawsuits seek compensatory, emotional distress, and punitive damages.
