Why Should I Care if My GPS Tracker is Not Supported by the Wireless Carrier?

It is important to remember that automotive GPS trackers use cellular networks to deliver location information to tracking and mapping applications. Verizon has announced the sunset of 3G CDMA cellular wireless service as of December 31, 2019. The newer 4G LTE cellular replaces 3G 1xRTT as the primary technology in their networks. The majority of GPS trackers on Verizon are currently operating using 3G cellular technology and will stop reporting to the 3G network. Verizon also announced that 3G (non-LTE capable) devices will also not be allowed activation on their network after June 30, 2018.
Other Carriers using 3G service will also be affected by Verizon’s shutdown if they roam onto the Verizon 3G network. Devices only on 3G service will be affected, becoming fully non-functional, as their 3G network is shut down.

Says Jacoby, "We no longer offer 3-year service plans for these two devices.” He did clarify that dealers will get 2 years of service as long as the devices are put into use by June 30, 2018.
SVR Tracking has been offering the SVR1000L and SVR1000BZL 4G LTE tracking devices on Verizon since March of this year. The 4G LTE coverage and performance have proven to be excellent. Says Jacoby, “As far as we can tell, Verizon has done a great job of deploying LTE across the US.”
