Widespread Job Gains Reported in June
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- The total number of nonfarm payroll employees increased by 288,000 in June, according to numbers reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The job gains were widespread, with employment growth reported in professional and business services, retail trade and financial careers.
According to the June 2014 Employment Situation Report released by the Department of Labor on July 3, the unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage points to 6.1 percent overall for the month of June. Over the last year, the unemployment rate declined by 1.4 percentage points, while the number of unemployed persons declined by 2.3 million.
The good news continued with the revision of job numbers for earlier months to include an increase of 29,000 jobs. The number of total nonfarm payroll employment for April was revised from 282,000 to 304,000, while May was revised from 217,000 to 224,000.
Employment in professional and business services increased by 67,000 in June - moderately higher than the 53,000 average of the past 12 months. Last month, employment growth within the industry increased in management and technical consulting services, architectural and engineering services, and computer systems design and related services.
The widespread gains reported in the retail trade and financial sectors include motor vehicle and parts dealers, building materials and garden supply stores, electronics and appliance stores, and insurance carriers and related activities.
