Wilderness Society Statement on President Obama’s State of the Union Address
Washington D.C. (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The following statement is from Jamie Williams, President of The Wilderness Society:
“The past year has shown great progress toward the protection of America’s wildest places and provided us many reasons to celebrate with the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, more than 275,000 acres of new wilderness protected, new national monuments in California and New Mexico, and smarter energy policies that will help safeguard our wildlands and wildlife. The Obama administration has protected more lands and waters than any in history and we need Congress to continue building on that success.
Across party lines, and in poll after poll, voters continue to say they “strongly support” President Obama’s proposals to protect public lands and create better energy policies that address energy independence and ensure a healthy environment. This includes the administration’s investments in cleaner energy sources like wind and solar, positioning the US as a global leader in clean energy technologies.
As the president outlined tonight, there are ways to work across party lines to continue moving America forward through modern ingenuity, science, and better practices to safeguard not only our way of life, but also our lands, wildlife, water and air.”
