Wiley and ASID Release Three Digital Shorts That Demonstrate How Interior Design Can Improve Living Experiences in the Autism Community
Hoboken, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 21, 2013 -- Wiley and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) release a three e-book “design shorts” series that explains the ways in which the design of interior spaces can improve living and learning experiences in the Autism community. As Autism awareness continues to grow, naturally it is making its way into the design community. Over the past decade, a growing body of research has emerged indicating specific design strategies that can be used to create optimal environments for people with Autism, throughout various stages of life. Interior designers find themselves being asked to design these kinds of spaces, with the goal of creating an environment that enhances rather than deters Autistic learning skills and perception. The digital shorts are Interior Design for Autism from Birth to Early Childhood(November 26, 2013), Interior Design for Autism from Childhood to Adolescence (November 26, 2013), and Interior Design for Autism from Adulthood to Geriatrics (December 23, 2013) by Author A.J. Paron-Wildes.
The first title Interior Design for Autism from Birth to Early Childhood focuses on project types that are most important for Autism in this age range, such as home environments, schools, and clinical therapy centers. The second title Interior Design for Autism from Childhood to Adolescence covers project types such as high schools, residential group homes, and workplaces, and the third title Interior Design for Autism from Adulthood to Geriatrics concentrates on workplaces, clinical settings, and nursing homes. About the Author:
A.J. Paron-Wildes, Stillwater, MN, is a Senior Architecture & Design Manager at Allsteel and Interior Design instructor at the University of Minnesota. She has fifteen years of experience in researching and designing interiors for clients with Autism and other neurological impairments. She is an ASID Thought Leader and Distinguished Speaker who frequently lectures and writes articles on this topic and is also an active member of key design organizations ASID, IIDA, AIA, and USGBC, among them, and is very involved and highly respected within Autism communities including the American Society of Autism (ASA).
