William C. Prentiss Releases New Political and Personal Memoir

Prentiss inspires readers with his insightful new memoir detailing the many triumphs and struggles of his daily life which took him from a small town in Illinois to the White House.

As a child of the Great Depression, Prentiss grew up in a middle class home, and he was successful academically and in sports. Though his adolescence was marred by some behavioral and emotional problems, Prentiss overcame his setbacks and went on to college and later the U.S. Air Force. His work as an intelligence officer took him from Pine Castle AFB in Florida to North Africa on three occasions.
Upon his return, Prentiss worked as a teacher and administrator, first at the Florida Military School in DeLand, Fla., and later at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla. His strong anti-war feelings led to his heavy involvement in politics and his work on Sen. George McGovern’s presidential campaign as well as his experiences at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. His later volunteer efforts, which included working with troubled youths in his Operation Comeback Program, earned him an invitation to the White House to receive President Reagan’s Volunteer Action Medal.
“One Man In His Time” captures the trends that rocked American history and culture from the Great Depression, World War II, the student movements of the 1960s to the political climate of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Prentiss writes, “I would hope that readers might carry away a better understanding of daily life throughout the last three quarters of the 20th Century.”

About the Author
William C. Prentiss grew up in Sterling, Ill. He served in the U.S. Air Force for two years and later became dean of the Florida Military School. Prentiss taught at Valencia College in Orlando, Fla., and became active in local and national politics. He is the founder of Operation Comeback for Troubled Teens and the Talako Indian Dancers performing youth group. President Reagan personally chose him to receive the President’s Volunteer Action Award. Prentiss has previously published “Secrets of a boy, Lost,” a coming-of-age novel.
