William E. Silver, MD, FACS of The Atlanta Institute for Facial and Aesthetic Surgery Presents at Las Vegas Cosmetic Surgeon Conference
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery’s triple board certified plastic surgeon, William E. Silver, MD, FACS, made four presentations at the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Dermatology Symposium June 10 to 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This annual conference is the largest event of its kind in North America, with around 1,500 surgeons in attendance.
“What makes this such a unique meeting is that all the different medical specialties that practice cosmetic facial surgery— facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists and oculoplastic surgeons— meet together as one group,” says Dr. Silver. “Normally each specialty would meet on their own. But at this particular meeting, with everyone together, attendees get the expertise in all of these different specialties. This creates not only an educational exchange but also a congeniality and collegial exchange with other disciplines.”
For Dr. Silver, this was his seventh year participating in this program, which is in its 11th year. At this year’s conference, Dr. Silver made presentations which shared his techniques for reducing an over-projected nose, performing cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) while simultaneously correcting drooping eyelids (ptosis), and for correcting lop ear deformities (otoplasty).
Something new at this year’s conference were discussion panels related to various areas of controversy in the medical field. For each controversial topic presented, one surgeon presented the reasons “for it” and another presented reasons to be “against it.”
“There was no right or wrong answer; the topic was discussed only to bring attention to the issue, and to have an open discussion,” Dr. Silver explains. He was asked to address the issue of financing cosmetic surgery, and talk about the “good” side of the issue.
“What we presented was not necessarily our own opinion, but we just had a debate to explore the issue,” Dr. Silver says.
In addition to lecturing at the conference, Dr. Silver also took courses presented by other surgeons—something he sees as a valuable opportunity.
“Physicians got to share what they’re working on and to bring out newer ideas which may not necessarily be tried-and-true, but we got to see their presentations and obviously evaluate them to see if it’s something we, with our own particular skills, want to bring back to our practices,” he relates.
An additional opportunity at the conference, according to Dr. Silver, is that many vendors were there, who brought with them cutting-edge technology not yet available on the market.
“This provided the chance to see these things before they are dispersed throughout the community, and we were able to evaluate these products at the meeting by talking to other surgeons, long before these things hit the market full force,” Dr. Silver says. “It’s an opportunity for my patients to have the newest technologies available to them sooner.”
Participating in this conference is just another way the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery strives to better serve their patients. Staying on top of cutting-edge research and being educated in multiple medical specialties ultimately leads to improved patient care.
