Willig, Williams & Davidson Partner Appointed Co-Chair of Philadelphia Bar Association Municipal Court Committee
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- Partner Kristine A. Phillips, of labor and employment law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, has been appointed as a co-chair of the Municipal Court Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association for 2014. The committee assists the bench and bar of the Municipal Court of Philadelphia in achieving and maintaining a just, efficient, speedy and easily accessible court system.
Phillips, who has been a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association since 2002, was the Vice-Chair of the Municipal Court Committee last year. This year, she will co-chair the committee along with Robert J. Willwerth, Esq. of Cohen & Willwerth, P.C. Phillips and Willwerth will lead the committee in examining and evaluating issues relating to the courts in civil and criminal jurisdiction, including substantive and procedural aspects, and will make recommendations for improvements.

Phillips is a partner in the legal services department of Willig, Williams & Davidson and focuses her practice on residential and commercial real estate, counseling clients in matters including sales, acquisitions and landlord-tenant disputes.
As an experienced real estate attorney, Phillips frequently donates her time and talents to pro bono legal work, skills that have been badly needed in recent years. In one notable case during the height of the country's foreclosure crisis, she worked with a Philadelphia foreclosure diversion program to help a 42-year-old former union roofer who was unemployed and facing the loss of his family’s longtime home. As described in a story about the program in The New York Times, Phillips was able to negotiate an extension with the man’s lender, which gave a housing counselor time to help him secure lower mortgage payments and save his childhood home.
For work such as that, Phillips has been honored for pro bono service, receiving awards from the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania in 2012 and again in 2013. Philadelphia VIP, which provides civil legal services to the poor, also has recognized both Phillips and the firm of Willig, Williams & Davidson for dedication to pro bono service with several awards in recent years.
