Wilmington, NC Car Accident Lawyer Richard Flexner Comments on Report About Speeding

According to Port City Daily (“Radar data, communication with residents part of plan to slow neighborhood speeders,” January 6), city officials have begun to use “stealth” traffic radar to compile data across city streets to determine the city’s most dangerous streets.

According to Port City Daily, between May 2 and June 7, 2013, preliminary findings from the stealth radar system indicated that sixty-one percent of drivers in the Hooker Road and Long Leaf Hills areas exceeded the speed limit by as much as 9 miles per hour. Another one-third of drivers exceeded the speed limit by ten or more miles per hour, according to the article.
In response, city officials plan on compiling further data across the city, using a pair of stealth radar systems to collect non-image data such as the speed of cars traveling through the area, the times drivers are most likely to speed and the frequency of which drivers are recorded exceeding posted speed limits, according to the Port City Daily.
“The dangers of speeding may be apparent to many drivers. But many drivers often choose to disregard posted speed limits, regardless of the consequences. Speeding puts everyone using the road, including pedestrians and bicyclists, in immediate danger.
