Wimbledon Health Partners Announces Expansion of Cardiac Testing Program to Reach Young Athletes at Risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest at Sports Facilities
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) December 15, 2015 -- Wimbledon Health Partners, the industry leader in on-site diagnostic testing for physicians and athletic programs, announces new program beginning with Insports Centers to test young athletes involved in league and recreational play for unsuspected cardiac abnormalities that can lead to sudden cardiac death. The first round of testing occurred on December 12th at Insports’ facility in Trumbull, Connecticut and included professionally administered EKGs and echocardiograms for athletes between the ages of 13-25.
Insports is a multi-sport recreation center on one of Connecticut’s largest turf fields, providing state-of-the-art facilities for league play, camps and youth programs. Insports’ goal is to promote health, wellness and safety for every athlete competing on the field and every player practicing on the courts. Teaming up with Wimbledon Athletics, the athletic testing division of Wimbledon Health Partners, is a natural fit. Wimbledon Athletics promotes early cardiovascular testing of young athletes to identify undiagnosed abnormalities to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death. In addition to early detection of conditions that are imminently life-threatening, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Wimbledon Athletics evaluates for abnormalities that pose a risk to these individuals later in life. By bringing an awareness of these disorders very early in their course, Insports and Wimbledon Athletics are working together to prevent tragedies down the road as well as in the present.
This alliance represents a move to reach athletes beyond high school and college sports programs. Every young competitive athlete is at a higher risk for experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Potentially life-threatening cardiac abnormalities can be detected through diagnostic testing, and this is something that Wimbledon Athletics is doing on a national scale for schools and now for sports facilities, like Insports. Peter Corbett, CEO and President of Insports, is passionate about the testing.
“Hundreds of athletes come through our door every day, and the safety of each and every one is something that is always on my mind,” he states. “The cardiac testing Wimbledon Athletics is doing can save lives, and I will do everything I can to make sure the young athletes that participate in Insports programs take advantage of this opportunity to be evaluated.”
