Wine and Spirits Announces First Ever Annual National Pumpkin Wine Competition
Yountville, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Everything is coming up pumpkin – from air fresheners to ice cream, from beer to vodka and whiskey. But where’s the pumpkin wine?
The website WineAndSpirits.com decided to find out.
Turns out pumpkin wines are available from several wineries in the Mid West and in the New England area, especially those specializing in fruit wines, but nobody is talking about it. There is also a lively interest from amateur home winemakers and plenty of recipes, commentary and “how to” tips online.
Believing pumpkin wine’s time has come, WineAndSpirits.com has created the first ever national challenge to find the best pumpkin winemakers in the USA. There will be two categories, amateur and commercial, that will be judged separately. In October 2014, a panel of food and wine experts will judge wines made from the 2013 pumpkin harvest. Gold, silver and bronze awards will be given to the winners in each category.
“Home winemakers are having fun and producing amazing and interesting wines all over the country. We really respect their enthusiasm, dedication and craftsmanship. Now they can turn their talents to using pumpkin as the base for a wine that fits perfectly with fall’s nip in the air, Halloween and Thanksgiving festivities. Winners will definitely have bragging rights,” said Priscilla Felton, Editor-in-Chief of WineAndSpirits.com.
Entrants must use at least 51% pumpkin in their wine. The balance can include blends of other fruits and vegetables. Entry forms and complete competition rules can be found at http://www.wineandspirits.com/pumpkinwine.
