WineWeaver: Celebrations for Royal Baby News – Crack Open the Bubbly
(PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- The most famous of sparkling wine is undoubtedly the French ‘champagne.' For centuries, and never more so than today, it has been associated as the wine of celebrations. From royal toasts (like the birth of the Royal Baby and new heir to the throne) to romantic dinners (with or without diamonds), or the coming of age, many of us have a personal memory of sparkling wine.
WineWeaver’s Master Sommelier, Christopher Delalonde, has recently started a series on his opinion on the six most essentials bottles of wines to keep in the personal cellar. Sparkling wine is perfect for the planned or unplanned celebratory toast or surprise visitor.
Christopher Delalonde, a winner of the Master Sommelier of the Year award, is a professional wine adviser, and restaurant sommelier, who often shares his thoughts about the benefits of wine aeration on WineWeaver.com
In the USA, the spectacular 2013 America’s cup is currently being held in San Francisco throughout August and until the end of September. The America’s Cup Trophy has been keenly fought for since 1851 so it is a delight to note that the sparkler of choice is Mumm Napa.
Stephen Barclay, CEO of the America’s Cup Event Authority, announced: “We’re thrilled to be serving Mumm Napa sparkling wine at all of our America’s Cup venues. Celebrating victory with a toast is a tradition that dates back nearly as far as the America’s Cup itself, and we’re happy to be raising our glasses with Mumm Napa.”
Mumm Napa is no stranger to the glory of sporting events as the San Francisco Giants can attest as the victory of winning the Major League Baseball 2012 World Series was toasted with Mumm Napa sparkling wine.
Not content with the odd toast, Mumm and the San Francisco Giants have collaborated to launch two sparkling wines in time for the MLB World championship - Mumm Napa Championship Brut and Mumm Napa Giants Brut Prestige.
The mystic and luxury of champagne, the French sparkling wine, was further endorsed when Tattinger was named, last month, as the official champagne for the 2014 World Cup being hosted in Brazil.
France, the home of champagne, has just seen the 100th Tour de France finishe. A race which remains one of the greatest endurance races known. What a joy to see Chris Froome (UK) wearing The Yellow Jersey with his glass of champagne in hand crossing the winning line. A wonderful celebratory end to a gruelling race.

Lanson may have been the sparkler of choice for no less than 25 years, but if the following statistics are an indicator, there is a new challenge fermenting and not least in the USA. The Wine Institute (USA) has published some interesting figures and given the USA total retail value (wine) in 2012 of $34.6 billion. The USA is no stranger to the magnificent growth in this industry and the sparkling wines and champagne sectors have had their share of impressive growth with 17.7 million cases being shipped in 2012 (Wine Institute).
With the new joint ventures, such as that between Mumm and the San Francisco Giants, there seems to be no stopping the association of sparkling wine and sparkling moments.
Patricia Robertson, founder of WineWeaver, remarks “these are exciting times for sporting challenges and it is wonderful to see champagne producers team up with great achievers of the sporting world”.
