Wireless Analyst Jeff Kagan Sees Signs of Life at Sprint
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 29, 2015 -- Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment on the early stages of what may be a Sprint recovery.
Sprint has gone through many changes over the last few decades. In fact over the years the entire wireless world has gone through many changes. In the early years all wireless carriers showed growth. However in the last several years there has been a divide.
Some companies continue to show strong growth while others failed to do so. In recent years both AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless have shows strong growth while both Sprint and T-Mobile have not.
“Things look like they are starting to turnaround. There have been dramatic changes in management and strategy from both Sprint and T-Mobile USA and we are starting to see growth once again.” Says Wireless Analyst Jeff Kagan.
T-Mobile started their turnaround more than a year ago under new management and CEO John Legere. Since then they have shown strong growth from a slice of the customer pie. They seem to be mostly focusing on the younger and lower income users. Customers more interested in saving money than in network reach or quality.
Sprint has gone through it’s own significant changes as well during the last year or two. Today Sprint has a new owner and corporate management. Masayoshi Son CEO of Softbank acquired Sprint, then last summer replaced long time CEO Dan Hesse with new CEO Marcelo Claure.
In November Sprint brought in Doug Michelman as Senior VP of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility. While that title is a mouthful, it does begin to shine a light on what Sprint may focus on going forward.
Michelman spent the last ten years as the Chief Communications Officer at Visa. He was also a senior executive with PR firm FleishmanHillard. That kind of background could prove to be just what Sprint needs.
“We still have to get a good sense of what the New Sprint is all about. What they will focus on. How they will compete. I think we will as Sprint developes their shorter and longer term strategies for growth.” Says Kagan.
The most exciting signs of life at Sprint has been in the last few months. New programs and deals have attracted the attention of customers, media and analysts. Sprint executives have shown they may indeed have that special sauce which is critical to any success story.
“During the last several months of 2014, Sprint seemed to introduce one hot idea after another. We have yet to hear the results, but the activity alone so far from Sprint was very impressive. If this continues, we could be seeing the very early days of the turnaround of Sprint.” Says Telecom Analyst, Kagan.
“Well have to keep our eyes on Sprint going forward. 2015 could be the year of the Sprint turnaround. It would be good to see four, strong, competitors in the US wireless space once again. That will be good for customers and the entire wireless marketplace.” Says Kagan.
“I’ll be keeping a close watch on Sprint going forward and offer comments. Stay tuned. As for right now Sprint seems to be at the beginning of a new growth trend.” Says Kagan.
