Wisconsin TPA Lands Near Top of Leaderboard in Activity Challenge Tied to Wellness Efforts
Appleton, WI (PRWEB) July 08, 2015 -- A third party administrator (TPA) that encourages employer-clients to adopt company-wide wellness programs and motivate their employees to participate, Cypress Benefit Administrators showed how it’s walked the walk by getting its own staff on board with a new, health-focused initiative.
Cypress recently took part in a 12-week, statewide activity challenge organized by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) which started on April 6. The TPA finished at the top of the leaderboard in third place.
WELCOA’s Top 100 Active Companies is a corporate fitness challenge that was introduced in 2015 with the intent to increase employee movement throughout the workday. In this first pilot phase, 40 Wisconsin-based companies participated with a total of 8,263 employees – a combination of both in-state and out-of-state – representing them. Team Cypress had 54 members.
“We put a lot of emphasis on the positives a wellness program can bring when working with our clients, so I’m excited to see that our own staff really stands behind this concept,” said Tom Doney, president and CEO of Cypress.
As employees got moving, they logged their activity and were awarded points. They also earned credit for participating in educational quizzes and assessments.
Doney explained that Cypress implemented its own on-site wellness program four years ago, and since that time, the TPA’s overall medical plan costs have gone down significantly.
“First and foremost, the best result to come from a wellness program is a healthier workforce,” he said. “To realize a 15% plan cost savings on top of that is an added bonus.”
Cypress was also recognized by WELCOA and its Wisconsin affiliate in 2013 with a Gold Well Workplace Award after demonstrating quality and excellence in promoting worksite health.
A privately held company headquartered in Appleton, Wis., Cypress Benefit Administrators has been pioneering the way toward cost containment in self-funded health benefits since 2000. The third party administrator (TPA) is the country’s first to bring claims administration, consumer driven health plans and proven cost control measures together into one package for companies ranging from 50 employees to thousands of employees. It serves employer-clients across the U.S. with additional locations in Portland and Salem, Ore., Omaha, Neb. and Denver, Col.
