WISPA Applauds the FCC’s New Spectrum Sharing Ruling
Redding, CA (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA), a membership organization that promotes the development, advancement, and unity of the fixed wireless Internet service provider (ISP) industry, commends today’s decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to make 100 megahertz of federal spectrum available for commercial use under a leading edge spectrum management system that will change the way spectrum is shared and used.
Under the ruling, frequency spectrum in the 3550-3650 MHz band will be managed by a three-tiered Spectrum Access System that will dynamically assign spectrum that can be used for fixed wireless broadband. The Association identified this band for fixed broadband use four years ago and is pleased that new technologies and novel regulatory tools will create an innovation band for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and other industries.
“The FCC's decision will, over time, improve access to broadband for rural Americans, drive innovation and enhance spectrum efficiency. We also very much appreciate the FCC’s attention to the needs of incumbent providers that operate in the adjacent 3650-3700 MHz band,” said Alex Phillips, WISPA Board Member. “WISPA looks forward to continuing to work with the FCC in crafting additional rules to hasten access to the band.”
