With a Song in His Art - "Songs To Paint By" is a Masterpiece!
Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) September 20, 2015 -- What does award-winning songwriter and painter, Lanny Sherwin, do to combine his two creative passions? He writes songs to paint by, of course. Or, more accurately, he writes Songs To Paint By.
Songs To Paint By, performed by The Lanny Sherwin Jazz Project, consists of 9 original smooth jazz instrumentals to inspire the creative soul of painters and artists of all stripes. “I always listen to music when I paint,” says Sherwin. “Edgy rock and R&B tend to distract me, and although I like classical, I want more of a groove. Smooth jazz puts me right in the flow of where I want to be.”
Sherwin, who lives in Santa Barbara, CA, has won over 50 awards for his songs (all on his Sandman Records label). But in the last four years he has poured his creative energy into painting. He has already juried into over a dozen art shows, garnered recognition from many curators, and received several commissions – including one from the former Chairman of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
“I’ve always loved the songwriting and producing process”, says Lanny. He spent 10 years as a songwriter and producer in Nashville, TN; has written and produced 5 children’s CDs; and continues to write songs for seriously ill children through the Songs of Love Foundation. “This is just more of the same … but for my fellow artists!” As Sherwin says, “I wanted to express how - like individual colors come together to produce a finished, harmonious painting - so it is with a great jazz band.”
With titles like “Saxativity”, “The Color of Groove”, and “Muse Music,” Songs To Paint By dances in and around a palette of musical delights giving each player a chance to shine. The Lanny Sherwin Jazz Project is a band of stellar jazz musicians who were brought together exclusively for this CD: Bob Patin (keyboards), Denis Solee (sax & flute), Duncan Mullins (bass), and Brian Fullen (drums).
Lanny says, “You can also insert whatever creative endeavor you are pursuing instead of ‘Paint.’ These songs are equally inspiring if you are into sculpture, printmaking, origami, jigsaw puzzles, doodling, drawing, cooking, jewelry-making, writing, or fill-in-the-blank.”
