Women’s Sportswear Pioneer Adds New Perspective to Brand with Expansion of Design Team
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2016 -- With an eye for style and a firm stake in the fashion industry for over 40 years, Babette announces an exciting addition to their team, lead designer, Heather McKenzie. Bringing with her more than 15 years of experience, McKenzie’s keen eye for color and concept makes her the ideal creative mind to further fuse the classic Babette aesthetic with up and coming trends.
Over the past four decades, founder of the namesake line, Babette Pinsky, has been at the helm in developing the brand’s signature use of sophisticated colors and strong geometric shapes, while also becoming best known as the first to create the pleated raincoat. These staples can be found in Babette’s seven brick and mortar stores across the country. With particular and unique tastes that align exceptionally to Babette’s detailed visions, McKenzie has already become a strong asset to the design team. By bringing her on board, the legendary designer hopes to not only continue her legacy, but add a new perspective to her designs as well.
With an expertise in all design-relation programs, sewing, creative illustrating and managing, McKenzie honed her skills when she began designing menswear private labels for Michael Brandon, B.J.D. Her success rose as she continued her career with top designer brands including: Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, where she served as Cut and Sew Knit Design Consultant. After progressing to Concept Design Consultant for White House | Black Market, she transitioned to the roll of Design Consultant for Angel Dear Girls Collection and Stanley Adams Couture Dress Collections. When not designing for fashion industry leaders, McKenzie heads up her own side project with an Etsy store.
“Our pieces have always been designed to embody and accentuate the unique personality of each and every customer. We are delighted to have Heather’s talent and vision to further the brand’s voice,” says Pinsky. “I believe that Heather has the capability to take our foundation as a women’s contemporary label and tailor it not only to our longstanding customers, but to a new generation of consumers as well.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Babette team. To be working alongside a legend like Babette herself. I am looking forward to the upcoming seasons and adding my own elements to the line. This brand’s potential is endless,” says McKenzie.
About Babette: Inspired by late 20th Century modernist architecture, industrial and graphic design, Babette’s work has been distinguished by the use of sophisticated colors and strong geometric shapes. Her modernist sensibilities dictate that embellishment is kept to a minimum and that any detail must have a useful function. She launched her first signature clothing line in 1968 in boutiques within contemporary design stores.
