Woodcraft to Introduce Its New Pinnacle® Hand Plane at Woodworking in America Show
Parkersburg, WV (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Woodcraft will unveil its new “Made in the USA” Pinnacle® 40-1/2 Scrub Plane during the Woodworking in America show Oct. 18 and 19 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky.
“As woodworkers continue to discover the value of hand tools, especially hand planes, Woodcraft decided to tackle designing its own scrub plane that would meet the demands of modern woodworking, be made in the USA, and carry Woodcraft’s quality guarantee,” Woodcraft president Jody Garrett said.
Woodworking in America (WIA) show attendees will see the plane in action at the Woodcraft booth where hand-tool expert Rob Cosman will be demonstrating its capabilities. Cosman, who is best known for his hand-tool expertise and instruction, hosts online hand tool and power tool workshops and designs hand tools.
One lucky WIA show attendee will win a Pinnacle 40-1/2 Scrub Plane in a random drawing.
“As we approached designing this hand plane, we used the old Stanley 40-1/2 scrub plane as our inspiration, while looking for ways to make a more modern ergonomically designed version that would be easier to use for coarse stock removal than other planes on the market. We are excited to share the final product with the woodworking community,” Vince Grlovich, Woodcraft vice president for sales and marketing said.
Grlovich said the new plane’s design includes two major “comfort features,” plus one that improves the plane’s travel across coarse lumber. “We shortened the blade to allow for an increase in the height of the longer, forward leaning rear tote and made the front knob larger and optimized the profile to provide more comfort and control during use. Also, the flat sole features radius edges to allow the plane to glide smoothly over rough, uneven surfaces with minimal tracking.”
Made of heavy, stress-relieved ductile iron castings that ensure long life, the 40-1/2 features a curved 3" radius blade made from A2 steel hardened to 60-62 HRC. Both the tote and knob are crafted from American black walnut.
