World Allergy Organization Symposium on Food Allergy and the Microbiome Begins Today
Miami, Florida, USA (PRWEB) December 05, 2015 -- The World Allergy Organization (WAO) commences the 2015 WAO Symposium on Food Allergy and the Microbiome in Miami from December 5 to 6 to discuss what is known about food allergy as well as the life course of the human microbiome. A faculty of 25 internationally known experts will present recent research and insights on food allergy diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, as well as what is currently known about the human microbiome and allergic disease.
“The Symposium will offer attendees simultaneous tracks of presentations and in-depth discussion on food allergy and the microbiome. This will allow global experts and young physicians and researchers in the allergy/immunology community to interact and discuss compelling new research in allergic disease management and prevention,” according to Lanny Rosenwasser, MD, President of the World Allergy Organization and Symposium Chair.
According to Dr. Alan Landay of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, “We are just at the very beginning of understanding the role of the microbiome in health and disease. The field of food allergy offers a unique opportunity to evaluate the microbiome given the focus of this disease on the GI tract.” Dr. Landay will present on “Pro-Inflammatory Disruptions of the Microbiome in Chronic Disease: Cause or Effect?”
The 240+ delegates from 40 countries will also have the opportunity to attend two Plenary Sessions that will bring both tracks together. The plenary sessions will include:
•The Microbiome: Implications for Developmental Biology with Dr. Susan Prescott, Princess Margaret Hospital, Perth, Australia
•The Gut Microbiome in Food Allergy: A Review with Dr. Christine Joseph, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI, United States
•Food Allergy: Past, Present and Future with Dr. Hugh Sampson, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY, United States
•Secondary Prevention of Food Allergy with Dr. Gideon Lack, Kings College London, Guy's & St. Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust, London, United Kingdom
The scientific program will also feature a poster session, presenting 36 accepted abstracts.
