World Center for Global Development Announced
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- Plans for the establishment of the International Center for Peace and Security (ICPS), a new global center for addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges and to help achieve ambitious new global development goals, including eradicating poverty, ensuring equality, preventing armed conflict, protecting the environment, and building a more sustainable, prosperous and peaceful world, are announced by the ICPS development group.
The planned new center is the first of its kind and will be a permanent global forum for international cooperation and collective action for organizations within the international community, to be located in New York City.
ICPS will enable global collaboration between organizations in the public, civil and private sectors on the full range of issues on the global development agenda including international peace and security, humanitarian aid, human rights, education, global health, biodiversity, sustainable development and climate change.
The announcement of the new global center is made on the 70th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations, and coincides with the gathering of world leaders this year to decide on new global development goals for the next 15 years.
The world today faces many pressing challenges. 1.2 billion people live in extreme poverty, 2.5 billion lack access to adequate sanitation, 750 million lack access to clean water, 800 million suffer from hunger, 21,000 children die each day of preventable causes, 50 percent of the world's tropical forests are gone, and pollution and climate change threaten all corners of the world, among a host of other issues.
"These are urgent and complex issues that have no borders and affect all people and nations. No actor can solve these problems alone, and it is well understood within the international community that tackling these challenges and achieving global development goals will require a new level of international cooperation between governments, civil society and the private sector,” said Stirling Dean, Executive Director of the group.
ICPS represents a key infrastructure investment for global development, for the first time providing organizations from the public, civil and private sectors with a permanent venue and a comprehensive platform for international cooperation, a major international office and conference center, global forums in international affairs, engagement with leading international institutions, global connectivity and secretariat services.
The center is being developed to house a large group of organizations and institutions including headquarters and representative offices for intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, bilateral agencies, think tanks, philanthropic foundations and international charities.
The new global forum will support and enable organizations to engage in continuous international cooperation, address root causes as well as immediate needs, develop comprehensive solutions, improve development effectiveness, align multi-stakeholder partnerships, foster greater inclusion and participation, and strengthen existing institutions and mechanisms. It will further support and enable implementation of systemic change, integration between economic, social and environmental dimensions, and help meet development targets at global, regional, national and local levels.

The International Center for Peace and Security is developed in accordance with United Nations global development goals and is based on extensive research, development, analysis and consultations with leading international organizations, the United Nations, the New York City Mayor's Office, the New York State Governor's Office, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, real estate firms and civic organizations.
ICPS has been in development for over ten years and has reached the implementation phase, with an established framework, completion of basic research and development, infrastructure and component designs, business incentives, interest from key stakeholders, and agreements with development partners.
The announcement of the plans for the center is being accompanied by the launch of a new website (http://www.icpsglobalforum.org), engagement on social media platforms, and with the commencement of a public fundraising phase, among others.
The International Center for Peace and Security is a non-profit development led by the World Peace Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit group established to administrate and coordinate the center development process, with Jones Lang LaSalle, a global real estate services firm specializing in commercial property management, leasing and investment management, serving as exclusive broker.
