Tampa, FL (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- On Wednesday, November 19, The Lung Institute will host a free advocacy event on Franklin Street outside of Lykes Gaslight Square Park in downtown. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung condition that obstructs the breathing of many individuals. The Lung Institute offers stem cell therapy to treat COPD, as well as several other lung diseases. This event will raise awareness for COPD; as people often have very little knowledge about it. This is the first year that the event is being held by the Lung Institute.
The Lung Institute will raise public awareness by offering informational flyers on COPD and engaging community members. There will also be prizes and giveaways at the event, which will serve as a reminder for World COPD Day.
World COPD Day is organized annually by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). They partner with healthcare professionals, educators and the general public who want to alleviate the hardships that those with COPD face. The first COPD day was held in 2002 and has been growing each year. Recently, there have been events organized in over 50 countries around the world.
People diagnosed with COPD face many obstacles daily. Some rely on oxygen to get through the day and find it difficult to complete even the most common tasks without struggling. The Lung Institute encourages citizens to take part in World COPD Day.
“We are looking to raising awareness about COPD,” says Lynne Flaherty, Executive Vice President of the Lung Institute. “Our hopes are to educate the public on the effects of this condition and how treatments can help improve and manage their quality of life.”
