World Peace: New Article from Off The Grid’s Bill Heid Details Path to World Peace
Thomson, IL (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- It sometimes seems as though history is just one long string of wars and times of peace are the exception rather than the rule. People try to make peace and work through diplomacy but oftentimes war breaks out anyway. In his latest article, Swords Into Plowshares, Off The Grid columnist Bill Heid states that, though difficult to achieve, world peace is possible.
The phrase “making swords into plowshares” has been used by peace advocates for years, but Heid points out that it originated in the Old Testament books of Isaiah and Micah and referred to “the last days,” which may be interpreted as the time since Christ’s death and resurrection. So if the world is supposed to be at peace now that Christ has come, why are wars still being fought? Heid explains it like this: “In short, the prophets say that peace will come to the world when the nations receive the word of God, give themselves to the worship of God, walk in His laws, and submit to His judgment and correction. Furthermore, the prophets say this will happen before Jesus returns. It will happen as the church faithfully declares God’s word to all the peoples of the earth. What the prophets don’t give us is an exact timeline or a terminus ad quem. We aren’t told how long this will take, only that God will accomplish it.”
Heid then challenges Christians, saying that world peace is a viable reality but only after the Great Commission to carry God’s word to the entire world has been fulfilled. Peace cannot be achieved through politics, diplomacy, or institutions like the United Nations because humans on their own are essentially selfish and violent. Only God’s word working in people can bring about lasting peace on earth, and that can only happen when all people have been taught the truth of God’s word. Heid concludes, “Jesus Christ alone is the Prince and Author of Peace. In the peace He makes between God and men is the fountain of grace that can bring peace to our world. Peace comes through grace. It is structured by God’s law. And so until the Church gets serious about the Great Commission, we will continue to hear of wars and rumors of wars.”
