World’s Ugliest Dog® Contest Applauds Imperfection
Petaluma, CA (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- You’ve heard the expression “That dog is so ugly it’s cute!” According to the organizers of the World’s Ugliest Dog® Contest, at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, that is the philosophy of their contest. “We celebrate the spirit and imperfections that make these dogs loveable and adoptable,” explains Sarah Cummings, CEO.
New at the annual contest, to be held June 26, is the World’s Ugliest Dog® Spirit Award that will honor a dog and owner who have overcome obstacles and/or are providing service to the community based on the dog’s biography. There will also be a consolidation of the prior categories, pedigreed and mutt, with awards now given for the World’s Ugliest Dog® and the Spirit Award. Dogs are judged generally on appearance, personality, and audience interaction.

Festivities include an afternoon of mingling at the Dog Lovers Festival, a Red Carpet Walk, a Faux Paws Fashion show featuring Ugly Sweaters for dogs, and presentation of adoptable dogs from various rescue organizations by Miss Sonoma County ambassadors.
Applications are now available on-line at Sonoma-MarinFair.org. Dog owners must submit a high-resolution close-up photo of the dog, a bio, a health certificate showing up-to-date vaccinations, and a $10 entry fee. All entries must be received by midnight June 25.
The World’s Ugliest Dog® winner will receive a grand prize of $1,500 and the Spirit Award Recipient will receive a special award. Other awards include trophies, cash and gifts from sponsors. The World’s Ugliest Dog® has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox News, Entertainment Tonight, and the Jimmy Kimmel Show among others and was featured in an Animal Planet documentary “Worst in Show”.
