World T.E.A.M. Sports' Inclusive Long Island Sea Kayak Journey Challenges Disabled, Able-Bodied Participants
Holbrook, New York (PRWEB) July 20, 2015 -- Eleven developmentally and physically-disabled athletes of all ages will join eleven able-bodied coaches for the 22 mile, August 4-5 Coastal Team Challenge from Long Island non-profit partners World T.E.A.M. Sports and Independent Group Home Living.
Traveling by sea kayak along the southern Long Island coast, the athletes will launch from Westhampton Beach Marina and paddle to Smith Point on the first day. Following overnight camping at Smith Beach, the teams will travel to Patchogue Beach Club in Patchogue for a gala post-event dinner and celebration featuring the music of Long Island Motown, Funk and Soul band Hot Peaz and Butter.
Sponsored by TimeCapital Investor Advisory Services and American Portfolios Financial Services, the Coastal Team Challenge will offer participants an inspiring journey. Paddling along the sea lane between rest stops, the athletes will undertake the many challenges of open water boating, from tides to fast-moving summer showers to wakes from passing boats and ships. Close teamwork and cooperation between team members will insure success for these athletes.
“Athletes, guides, coaches and volunteers are all ready for the second annual Coastal Team Challenge,” said Alex Rohman, a Partner of TimeCapital Investor Advisory Services and co-organizer for the event. “The event has grown after last year's success and we look forward to the two day challenge on the great south bay of Long Island.”
“World T.E.A.M. Sports is excited to bring the Coastal Team Challenge back to Long Island this August,” said Van Brinson, World T.E.A.M. Sports President and CEO. “This event continues to expand our mission of ‘changing lives through sports’ and creates exceptional sporting opportunities for people with disabilities in the Long Island area. We look forward to working with our partners to continue this event for years to come.”
Using Hobie two-person Mirage Oasis kayaks, the teams will remain within sight of the coast during their non-competitive journey. Rest stops scheduled each day will keep the participants fresh, fed and hydrated. In addition, power boats will travel alongside the teams to provide assistance for any emergency.
For the participating athletes, both those who are disabled and those who are able-bodied, the teamwork and cooperation of the journey brings greater awareness of the exceptional power of sports and teamwork. “I am not sure who gets the most out of it, but I know all change for the better,” said Rohman. “We are so fortunate to be given the chance to spend two days with such incredible and inspiring athletes.”
