World War I: Was it Really the One to End All War?
BALTIMORE (PRWEB) June 09, 2015 -- Nicholas Lambros, retired teacher and U.S. Army veteran, was perusing an antique store a few years ago when an old letter fell out of a book he was buying. The letter was written in 1918, during World War I, between siblings involved in different areas of the war. It immediately made Lambros think, “That would make a great novel.”
Over the next 20 years, Lambros did extensive research, wrote his novel and recently published the book. “To End All War: A Historical Novel” is an adventurous story for the history buff in everyone that also sheds light on the long-term affects of the Great War. It follows the lives of three siblings—a surgeon, a fighter pilot and a counter-spy—in a historically accurate adaptation that finds only two of them will return home.
“If you ignore history, you are doomed to repeat it,” Lambros said. “In my research, I discovered things about the Great War I didn’t know. I learned to appreciate its affect on the world as it exists today, yet at the same time, I remember how little I was taught about it in public school.”
Along with many historians, Lambros agrees that most tensions we have in the Middle East today are prevalent because it was “divided arbitrarily when the war ended with no regard for tribal identities, religious differences or economic consequences.” World War I set the stage for the rest of the century and continues to have affects even today. Some would even say you can’t understand World War II until you understand what came before.
“The First World War was the bloodiest war history had ever seen,” Lambros said. “When it ended, the world had lost a generation of young men. Yet today, many see World War I as little more than an event that forced historians to attach the number two to the next war. The war to end all war did not fulfill its promise. Rather, it set many precedents.”

Nicholas Lambros proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. During his travels to Europe, he visited the battlefields and cemeteries of both world wars.
