World War II Foundation Rolls Out New Digital On Demand Viewing Format for its Entire WWII Documentary Film Catalog

Kingston, Rhode Island (PRWEB) March 24, 2015 -- The non-profit World War II Foundation, one of the world’s leading non-profits in the preservation of the personal stories of the World War II generation, announces that its award-winning films are now available on demand to a world-wide audience.

Twelve films are now available for purchase with eight more documentaries to be added in 2015 and 2016. Many of the films have won both regional and national/international awards.

“Having the World War II films online for instant viewing opens up a global audience for our foundation and brings attention to our time-critical mission,” Tim Gray said.

“The World War II Foundation is now able to bring all our films to a global online audience at a low cost,” said World War II Foundation Chairman Tim Gray. “Viewers with smart phones, tablets and computers will be able to purchase our films on demand and download them to their devices. Included with the actual films are some great bonus material that corresponds with each documentary,” Gray continued.

"A free preview trailer for each film is included so the viewer gets a feel for the topic," Gray said.

“We are relying less and less on actual DVD sales as the future of content viewing globally is on smart phones, tablets and computers,” Gray emphasized. “Online sales and viewing comes at a significant savings to the viewer as well.

"A DVD may cost $20, not including shipping and handling, which can be quite expensive, especially when sending to Europe. We can now offer our films globally at $6.95 and the customer still owns the film. The online films are also not region specific, so it will play anywhere in the world on any device,“ Gray said.

All proceeds from the sale of the films online goes back into the non-profit mission of the World War II Foundation, which is focused on education and preservation of the oral histories of those who fought and survived World War II.

Some of those who have lent their voices to the films as narrators include actors Dan Aykroyd, Dale Dye and Damian Lewis. Golf broadcaster Peter Kessler, professional narrator Tom Kane and Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Tim McCarver have also narrated other WWII Foundation films.

To date, the World War II Foundation has interviewed hundreds of veterans and survivors of WWII and traveled to such locations to film as Guadalcanal, Banika, the Russell Islands, Corregidor, Bataan, Manila, Normandy, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in addition to many other locations in the United States.

World War II Foundation films, in cooperation with video production partner Tim Gray Media, air nationally in the United States via American Public Television. WWII Foundation/TGM films rank in the top five of most requested programs by PBS affiliates. The films also air internationally in countries such as China, Australia, New Zealand, France and the United Kingdom.

“Having the films online opens up a world-wide audience for what we are doing,” Tim Gray said. “We are losing so many of these men and women from that generation every day that we need get their stories out there now, before the veterans and survivors of World War II pass into history. This new online vehicle allows us to do that."
