Wright Conserve Hip Replacement Lawsuits Continue to Mount in Federal Litigation, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- Wright Conserve hip replacement lawsuits (http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com/wright-conserve-hip-replacement.html) continue to mount in a federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to an update issued by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) on September 11th, there are now 73 Wright hip lawsuits pending in the federal proceeding. Court documents indicate that just over 40 Wright Conserve claims had been filed in the litigation at the beginning of the summer. All of the Wright hip lawsuits pending in the Northern District of Georgia allege that the metal-on-metal design of the Wright Conserve Total Hip Implant System, Conserve Total A-Class Advanced Metal Hip Implant System, and the Conserve Resurfacing System allowed excessive levels of metal ions to accumulate in recipients, resulting in debilitating complications that often necessitate revision of the hip implant. In a regulatory filing dated April 30th, Wright Medical Group reported that additional Conserve hip replacement lawsuits have been consolidated in California Superior Court for pretrial handling pursuant to procedures of California State Judicial Counsel Coordinated Proceedings*.
According to the same regulatory filing, the Company is also named a defendant in a number of Wright hip lawsuits involving the Profemur Total Hip Replacement System. Wright also warned investors that the July 2012 Stryker hip recall for Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems had led to increased scrutiny of cobalt chrome modular neck products, something which could negatively impact Profemur sales.*
On March 20, 2013, a Joint Notice of Settlement was filed with the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, that indicated the company had reached a Wright hip lawsuit settlement in at least one claim pertaining to the Profemur hips.
