NASHVILLE (PRWEB) April 05, 2016 -- As a teenager, Tenika Jennings found herself in a seemingly irreversible state of depression. She was hopeless, lost. But writing changed all that.
In her book, “The Girl with the Journal,” Jennings shares a series of poems she wrote during her struggle with depression. The poems provide an honest look at the trials and tribulations of coming of age in today’s society, particularly as a young woman.
“This book is truly a peek inside the mind of young woman suffering from depression,” Jennings said. “There’s no way to explain what it feels like to be depressed, but my hope is that this book sheds some light on how dark of a disease it can truly be.”
Jennings found peace in writing throughout her struggle and wants to relay some lessons she learned while growing up to other young adults.
“It can be hard to navigate life’s ups and downs, particularly as a young person,” Jennings said. “But if there’s one thing I can teach others who may be struggling like I was, it’s that tough times will teach you the most about yourself and about others.”
