WSO2 Director of Research to Present Session on Implementing Scalable Real-time Analytics at Strata + Hadoop World 2015

At Strata + Hadoop World 2015, WSO2 Director of Research Srinath Perera, Ph.D. will present a session on how to implement scalable real-time analytics using a complex event processing (CEP) server and an Apache Storm stream processing system.

Achieving Scalable Real-time Analytics Via CEP and Stream Processing
The session, "Scalable Real-time Analytics with Declarative SQL-like Complex Event Processing Scripts," will be held 2:20–3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015, in room 210 D/H.
Historically, complex event processing has focused on ultra fast response times and execution on one or few nodes while stream processing systems focus on large-scale execution. In this session, Srinath will discuss how developers can combine these capabilities.
Srinath will begin by examining how CEP languages handle real-time analytics by providing SQL-like declarative queries and high-level operators—such as time windows, stream joining, and temporal patterns—that enable users to write complex queries in a few lines. He then will discuss a scalable CEP engine that not only lets users write their queries using a declarative SQL-like CEP query language, but also allows them to execute those queries using a graph of CEP nodes deployed on top of Apache Storm, providing the best of both worlds.
Approaches for Analyzing Data in Real-time
The WSO2 booth (#1025) at Strata + Hadoop World will have experts in data analytics and the cloud to provide three workshop-style demonstrations of how WSO2 is enabling real-time analysis of big data with the high-performance, massively scalable, and 100% open source WSO2 Complex Event Processor (WSO2 CEP).
• Demonstration #1 examines how creating queries in WSO2 CEP, such as speed limit, proximity and geo-fencing, can be used for a traffic application that sends alerts to users about traffic conditions via Twitter.
• Demonstration#2 looks at how queries in WSO2 can be used in an application to predict train and bus arrivals, as well as provide updates on a range of traffic conditions.
• Demonstration #3 reviews a CEP use case for tracking and processing data from a soccer match while achieving throughput in excess of 100,000 events per second through the use of WSO2 CEP and MapReduce-based technologies.
WSO2 CEP is part of the WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform. About the Presenter
As WSO2 Director of Research, Dr. Srinath Perera overlooks the overall WSO2 platform architecture with WSO2's CTO. He specializes in Web services and distributed systems, specifically working with aspects of data, scale, and performance. Srinath is a co-founder of Apache Axis2, a member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and the Apache Web Service Project Management Committee (PMC).
