Wyncode Academy Announces the Opening of its 2nd Location in Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) April 13, 2015 -- After graduating four cohorts and nearly 70 students from their Wynwood location at The LAB Miami, Wyncode founders Juha and Johanna Mikkola have decided it’s time to expand to the beautiful and bustling General Provision co-working space in FATvillage, the up-and-coming Flagler Arts and Technology Village in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
“Wyncode's thrilled to expand our coding education to Fort Lauderdale,” says Juha Mikkola. "We have seen huge interest from both students and hiring partners in Fort Lauderdale as well as North of the city, in areas like West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Delray Beach. We want to provide students with the right education to join these awesome startups and build an exciting career as a software developer."
The development boot camp welcomes programming newcomers and other students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Wyncode believes that anyone can learn to code as long as they are motivated and willing to learn and put in the hard work to make it happen. Over the nine week period, students spend at least 300 hours learning and working collectively to create their very own web app. The small class size allows students to get a lot of individual attention and work closely with one another.
At the end of the course, Wyncoders will pitch their apps to a panel of judges made up of South Florida technology leaders. The winning team will walk away with a cash prize and, as we’ve witnessed in the past, a job offer as well as smiles from ear to ear.
Wyncode is excited to be part of the founding group of code schools behind NESTA (New Economy Skills Training Association). NESTA’s mission is to establish best practices, standards, and increase accountability for outcome-based technology training organizations. According to Wyncode’s co-founder Juha Mikkola, “...We hope that this movement will make it easier for students to identify which programs are truly effective at placing them into the workforce in relevant junior web developer positions.”
Can you learn to code in 9 weeks? The Fort Lauderdale campus’ Lead Instructor Damon Davison, a highly experienced developer, will be teaching a demo lesson at Wyncode’s Open House on Monday, April 13th at General Provision to help you answer that question.
Damon’s extensive professional background includes web development at the University of Cologne and working as the Director of Technology at Southern Records in London, England (http://southern.com). He has also worked as a developer at New Bamboo, also based in London. Damon and his wife moved to Ft. Lauderdale from London to be closer to family. He ran his own software consultancy, Curatur, prior to joining the Wyncode team in February of 2015. He is tightly integrated into the tech community, including organizing Rails Girls South Florida and the Broward Ruby Brigade. He’s a strong supporter of women in technology. He believes in, “…motivating them to hold fast to next rung in their career ladder.”
